Good hit piece...someone with more than a thimblefull of courage should sue the nonprofit "endorsers" and seek to have their tax-exemptions revoked. They're gigantic politrical money-laundries, probably one of the main conduits for cartel dough into the political machine, and are blatantly racist in the bargain.
I would love for a proper journalist who has access to records, databases, etc that I can't afford to take a real crack at this network and exactly where the money comes from.
Portlanders I speak to are legitimately shocked to learn that an org they supported and thought of as "pro-Democrat" is telling young people to vote PSL or Green Party because Harris was a "fascist" and we live under a "one-party-oligarchy." I think they'd be even more surprised to learn how much of the money comes from abroad.
Trump is a Russian asset? Well, I've got bad news for you about the Communists...
Here’s a list of Portland nonprofits that support noncitizen voting rights. Lots of overlap with those mentioned in your article. Candace Avalos’ nonprofit (Verde) is one of them of course.
Communities of Color
ACLU of Oregon
Adelante Mujeres
APANO (Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon)
Center for Migration, Gender, and Justice
Coalition of Communities of Color
IRCO (Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization)
Stuff like this is doing so much damage to the Food Bank. There is no reality in which Oregon Food Bank should have a formal position on voting eligibility or foreign policy.
Feed people and lobby for your continued ability to feed people.
Yep in addition to this OFB also gave money to support measure 26-238 the Multnomah County Capital Gains tax (instead of using it to feed the hungry). Sunshine Division is a better alternative if you want your $ to go to feeding the hungry instead of supporting far left politics and anti-Semitism. Jewish organizations have pulled support from the OFB…
I may comment further, but for now I want to say that I am a gay man who has no use for Basic Rights Oregon. Like all other organizations that were once effective advocates for gay rights, BRO has gone all trans all the time. I am a sex realist who opposes that agenda.
I have twice written Basic Rights Oregon asking them to mount a campaign to repeal the ban on same-sex marriage in the Oregon constitution. Clarence Thomas has as good as invited the fundiegelical bar to go after marriage equality. If Obergefell is overturned, I might find that I am no longer married to my partner of 43 years. BRO was actually in the process of putting together a referendum on the constitutional ban on gay marriage in Oregon, but dropped it when SCOTUS handed down the ruling in Obergefell.
I didn't get so much as an acknowledgement from Basic Rights Oregon.
I wish I could say I was surprised. I've always believed the reason Democrats never enshrined Roe v Wade into law was so that they could run on the potential that it would be overturned. I feel the same way about Obergefell. It would be an easy slam dunk, but it would take away a vague threat they could use to campaign on.
I volunteered for BRO when I first moved to Portland, pre-Obergefell when it felt like I was making a tiny difference. I wouldn't give them a dime now, especially after they withheld the Dan Ryan endorsement over issues unrelated to their alleged mission.

Here’s a link to the Sunshine Division. Don’t spend your money on politics with OFB. https://sunshinedivision.org/
